2022-23 Benvenue Elementary School PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT PLAN

Sections 1118 of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires the involvement of parents of participating children in the design and implementation of Title I projects.  A local educational agency may receive funds under this part only if such agency implements programs, activities, and procedures for the involvement of parents in programs assisted under this part consistent with this section. Such programs, activities, and procedures shall be planned and implemented with meaningful consultation with parents of participating children.

Describe the programs, activities, and procedures established to build the schools’ and parents’ capacity for meaningful parental involvement.

  • Each school served under this part shall convene an annual meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I and to explain the requirements of the Title I program, and the right of the parents to be involved.

Describe: Benvenue Elementary School will hold a meeting for parents, teachers, and students  to discuss expectations for high student achievement, status of the school in relation to #NASH HIGH

EXPECTATIONS2025 status of the school in relation to the North Carolina Annual Report Card, resources available for continued school improvement, and the goals for the upcoming year.  Benvenue Elementary PTO executive board will meet with the principal one week prior to this initial meeting to finalize the meeting’s agenda and program

  • Each school served shall offer a flexible number of meetings, such as meetings in the morning or evening, and may provide, with Title I funds, transportation, child care, or home visits, as such services relate to parental involvement.

Describe: Benvenue Elementary School will hold PTO meetings four times a year to share updates about continuous student achievement and the Read to Achieve Legislation, to review current resources available for support in all curriculum area, to present information about a selected curriculum topic or current issue in education, and to view performances by various student groups. The Benvenue PTO Executive Board will meet once a month to discuss financial reports, upcoming events, current school issues, and on-going plans for continuous school improvement.  The PTO Executive Board will present its discussion findings and outcomes during the scheduled general PTO meeting

  • Parents should be involved in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs, including the planning, review, and improvement of the school parental involvement policy and the joint development of the schoolwide program plan (if applicable).

Describe: Parents are notified of the policy during registration at the beginning of the school year. The policy is discussed during the school’s Open House where an open discussion takes place on exactly what the policy contains. Questions are answered by the principal and teachers involved.

  • Parents must be provided with timely information about programs under this part; and a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.

Describe: Benvenue Elementary School will hold a meeting for parents, teachers, and students within the first month of the new school year to discuss expectations for high student achievement, status of the school in relation to ESSA Legislation, status of the school in relation to the North Carolina Annual Report Card, resources available for continued school improvement, and the goals for the upcoming year. Benvenue Elementary PTO executive board will meet with the principal prior to this initial meeting to finalize the meeting’s agenda and program.

  • If requested, schools must provide parents opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.

The BES PTO Executive Board will meet before each scheduled PTO meeting to discuss financial reports, upcoming events, current school issues, and on-going plans for continuous school improvement.  The PTO Executive Board will present its discussion findings and outcomes during the scheduled general PTO meeting.

  • If the schoolwide program plan( if applicable) is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school is required to submit any parent comments on the plan when the school makes the plan available to the LEA. Describe:
  • Each participating school shall jointly develop with parents for all children served a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve State standards.

Describe: Benvenue Elementary School will issue accountability contracts at the beginning of school or in accordance with a date as set by school-system administration. These contracts specifically outline goals and responsibilities of parents, teachers, students, and principal in order for individual students to reach academic success.  Parents, students, teachers, and principal will sign the contracts after the discussion and agreement are finalized

LEAs and schools served under this part shall provide assistance to parents of children served by the school or LEA, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the State’s academic content standards and State student academic standards, State and local academic assessments, the requirements of Title I, and how to monitor a child’s progress and work with educators to improve the achievement of their children.

Describe: Parents are encouraged to attend PTA meetings to receive and discuss information regarding state and local academic standards, assessments and Title I requirements.  A period of time will be set aside for questions and answers regarding content standards, assessments, requirements of Title I, as well as how to monitor student progress.

Parents must be provided materials and training to help them to work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement.

Describe: Parenting workshops will be offered to parents as ways to help improve their student’s achievement.

LEAs and schools are required to educate teachers, pupil services personnel, principals, and other staff, with the assistance of parents, in the value and utility of contributions of parents, and in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between parents and the school.

Describe: The office faculty at Benvenue has received staff development on Communication Strategies hosted by Dr. Patricia Hollingsworth, Director of Public Relations.

To the extent feasible and appropriate, there should be coordination and integration of parent programs and activities with Head Start, Early Reading First, Even Start, the Home Instruction Programs for Preschool Youngsters, the Parents as Teachers Program, and public school preschool and other programs, and conduct other activities, such as parent resource centers, that encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children.

Describe: Benvenue Staff has been trained (Team) on how to implement the Parenting Partners Program and will be implementing these sessions this school year for parents.

LEAs and schools shall ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings and other activities is sent to the parents of participating children in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.

Describe: Benvenue Elementary School encourages parents to volunteer and become active in all facets of the overall school program.  Parents may join the PTO or serve as a volunteer in various school capacities.  There is also parent representation on the school’s Leadership Team which also serves as the School Improvement Team.   Parents are also urged to schedule periodic conferences with teachers and the principal in order to discuss the academic progress of their child (ren). Parents are encouraged to sign up for Class Dojo.   Benvenue Elementary provides parents have many opportunities to become involved with the academic success of the school, and research indicates that student achievement will increase when the level of parental involvement at the school increases. BES has a Community Involvement Seo Documents will be sent in English and Spanish.  Other formats will be made available as needed.

In carrying out the parental involvement requirements, the LEA and school, to the extent practicable, shall  provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports required under section 1118 in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language such parents understand.

Describe: Leadership Team meetings are held on a monthly basis, typically the fourthWednesday of each month at 4:00 pm.  Parent representatives are usually from the PTO, but all parents are welcome to attend.  The Leadership Team conducts a needs assessment for the school and sets goals based on the findings of the assessment.  The team then develops strategies for reaching these goals.  The team makes decisions concerning budgets, personnel, curriculum, achievement, etc. These goals are constantly monitored and revised to meet the needs of the school.  Our parents’ perspectives are an important part of the team, and we welcome their input.

LEAs and schools may adopt and implement model approaches to improving parental involvement.

Describe: Benvenue Elementary will continue its partnership with the Down East Partnership for Children.  Benvenue has a team that  were trained to deliver presentations to parents that will enhance their ability to help their children in areas such as study skills, homework, self esteem, etc (Parenting Partner and ALL Pro Dads).

LEAs and schools may adopt appropriate roles for community-based organizations and businesses in parent involvement activities.

Describe: Lakeside Baptist Church along with The Organization of Bails Bondsmen Backpack program,.  The Family Dollar donated school supplies, PTA grounds beautification program.

Parents may be involved in the development of training for teachers, principals, and other educators to improve the effectiveness of such training.

If the LEA has exhausted all other reasonably available sources of funding, Title I funds may be used to provide necessary literacy training.

Describe: Benvenue Elementary School (principal and staff) will utilize Title I Funds, school, local, and state resources to provide literacy training. (Corrective Reading, iPads, apps)

Title I funds may be used to pay reasonable and necessary expenses associated with local parental involvement activities, including transportation and child care costs, to enable parents to participate in school-related meetings and training sessions.

Describe: The All Pro Dads activities/meetings are provided with breakfast for meeting.  The Hour of Power provides dinner for families.

LEAs and schools may train parents to enhance the involvement of other parents.

LEAs and schools may arrange school meetings at a variety of times, or conduct in-home conferences between teachers or other educators who work directly with participating children, with parents who are unable to attend such conferences at school, in order to maximize parental involvement and participation.

District parental advisory councils may be established to provide advice on all matters related to parental involvement in Title I programs.

Describe: The principal will nominate and submit the name of at least one Benvenue parent to serve on the District-wide parent advisory committee.   This parent will attend the District Focus meetings.

Parent Involvement Policy

Benvenue Elementary School  is committed to provide each student with the tools needed to be successful in life. We understand that our families, school staff and community work together to make this happen. This policy shows how we plan to accomplish this task.

  1. Annual Title I Public Meeting

Benvenue Elementary School will host an annual public meeting for all parents and staff members virtually. This meeting is to inform parents about their rights under the law and to provide them with the information that will allow them to be fully active in their child’s education. This meeting will be held in conjunction with grade level curriculum nights. This  meeting will be recorded and posted on

Class Dojo. This meeting will also provide parents an opportunity to review the

School-Parent-Student Compact and suggest possible changes. Parents will be asked for recommendations of future dates and times to meet throughout the year.

  1. Flexible Meetings

Each parent meeting will be recorded to make it more convenient for parents to attend. The information shared at the Annual Public meeting will also be shared with parents of new students as they enroll and will be included in the monthly school newsletter for parents who may not be able to attend.

  • Involving Parents in an Organized, Ongoing, and Timely Way

Progress reports will be provided to parents one  time during each quarter. Parenting education sessions will also be conducted throughout the school year to share ways to assist parents and teachers to work together as partners. Parents will be asked for their suggestions or recommendations at all meetings.

  1. Timely Information

Parents will receive information on a regular basis through the weekly packet; grade level curriculum nights, Parent Weekly Newsletter,  and quarterly report cards. Parents’ questions and concerns will be addressed at each session throughout the year.

  1. Opportunities for Regular Meetings

Parent meetings will be held throughout the year which gives parents a chance to be actively involved in their child’s education. A parent survey will be developed and distributed, and parent support groups will be formed. Parent conferences are scheduled at a time available to parents. Parents are given a chance to give feedback on a quarterly and annual basis.

  1. Providing for Parent Comments

The parent policy is reviewed throughout the year and any concerns will be submitted to the district office. Parents will be asked for their comments and suggestions regarding the compact as well. An annual survey of parent/school issues will be conducted.

  • School-Parent-Student Compact

The School-Parent-Student Compact is developed and/or reviewed at the annual meeting, and reviewed at each parent meeting. Parents are asked for comments regarding the compact. A roster of signed compacts is filed in each teacher’s room.
