Excused Absences
When a student must miss school, a written excuse signed by a parent or guardian must be presented to the student’s teacher on the day the student returns after an absence. Absences due to extended illnesses may also require a statement from a health care practitioner. An absence may be excused for any of the following reasons:
1. personal illness or injury that makes the student physically unable to attend school;
2. isolation ordered by the local health officer or the State Board of Health or isolation or quarantine that is a required state or local control measure;
3. death in the immediate family;
4. medical or dental appointment;
5. attendance at the proceedings of a court or administrative tribunal if the student is party to the action or under subpoena as a witness ;
6. observance of an event required or suggested by the religion of the student or the student’s parent or legal guardian with written approval from the principal. Excused absences for religious observance must not exceed five days each academic year;
7. participation in a valid educational opportunity, such as service as a legislative or Governor’s page, with prior approval from the principal;
8. pregnancy and related conditions or parenting, when medically necessary;
9. a minimum of two days each academic year for visitation with the student’s parent or legal guardian if the student is not identified as at risk of academic failure because of unexcused absences and the student’s parent or legal guardian (a) is an active or inactive duty member of the uniformed services as defined by policy 4050, Children of Military Families, and (b) has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting; or
10. any other reason as approved by the board in a board resolution.
Any absence not meeting the requirements of an excused absence will be an unexcused absence.
Tuesday, November 28 is Fall makeup pictures for students that were absent or new to the school. You do not need to send any money. Proofs will be sent home.

Fall pictures and/or payments were due today. If you did not return with your child today, please return them on Monday, 11/27. You may also pay online at www.strawbridge.net. You will need to use the code that was included in the picture package. Please keep in mind that the school is responsible for picture package so all unpurchased pictures must to be returned.
Fall picture make-ups are Tuesday, 11/28. This is for students who were absent or new to our school since October 17.
School is closed Wednesday - Friday for the Thanksgiving holidays. School will resume on Monday, 11/27. We hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
'Tis the Season for Giving
The Benvenue PTO is sponsoring their annual Giving Tree. The giving Tree assists students and their siblings with gifts for the holidays. If you are interested in sponsoring a student, please stop by the office, take a tag ,complete the Donor form in the notebook. We ask that you spend a minimum of $100 and each child receives at least 5 gifts. Gifts should be unwrapped and returned to the school by December 15th with the tag attached. Thank you in advance for supporting this program.

Thank you so much for registering for the K-1 dance on Friday!. We sent this information out yesterday via email, posted on our social media, and the school has pushed out the information. We hope it finds everyone early enough to adjust their plans. We are sending it out again today in efforts to help inform families. The Parent Teacher Organization is very excited to create unique experiences for students and families at Benvenue Elementary! We want to do so in a way that works well with families' schedules so that as many students as possible can participate and engage. With that in mind, we will postpone the K-1 dance that was scheduled for Friday, November 17, 2023. We will have a collective dance for Kindergarten through 3rd grade on February 16th. It will be a great time! You will not have to worry about registering again for the next date! The PTO will apply payments made for the November 17th to the February 16th date for a seamless transition. If you would like a return of payment, please send an email to benvenuepto@gmail.com to request a return of payment. Internet Update:
At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, a fiber line was cut between Raleigh and Rocky Mount, leading to an interruption in internet and phone services for all NCPS . As of 1:23 p.m., we are pleased to report that all internet and phone lines have been successfully restored. We are grateful for your patience and understanding during this disruption.
